Pune Railway Police District (GRP,Pune)

          Pune Railway Police District (GRP-Government Railway Police) has been established before independence i.e. in 1924 there was only one Railway Police District working under the banner Central, South, Western Railway Police District. The first bifurcation was made in 1981 and second in 1999 as Nagpur Railway Police District and Mumbai Railway police District. Presently there are 3 Units in Railway Range they are Pune Railway Police District, Nagpur Railway Police District and Mumbai Railway Commissioner.

          Before 1981 , Pune Railway Police District was functioning under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Maharashtra State, Pune. 

          The post of  Deputy Inspector General of  Police, Maharashtra State, Railways was created on 01/05/1981 and the function of Pune Railway District was brought under control of  Deputy Inspector General of  Police, Railways Maharashtra State, Mumbai. At present, the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Railways is upgraded to Additional Director General of Police, Railways Maharashtra State, Mumbai.

          The office of Superintendent of Police, Railways Pune is situated at Old CID office Campus, Near Sangam Bridge, Shivajinagar, Pune-411005.

          The Establishment Branch, Correspondence Branch, Account Branch, Registry Branch are functioning under the supervision of the Office Superintendent, Railways Pune. These branches are under the control of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Home), Railways Pune. The final authorization for all these branches is done by Superintendent of Police Railways Pune.

          Besides these branches, District Special Branch, Security Branch, Local Crime Branch, Women Help Cell, Human Resources, Police Head Quarters Khadki, Sub Divisional Police Officer Pune and Solapur Division,  Pune, Daund, Kurduwadi, Solapur, Ahmednagar and Miraj  Railway Police Stations are functioning under the control of Superintendent of Police  Railways Pune
