Mobile Safety

 
Every day cases are reported to the police where mobile phones have been stolen or have been snatched. Mobile phone snatchers typically target women or senior citizens, as they are less likely to put up resist. Cyber Cell advises you to adopt some basic steps to reduce the risk of you becoming a victim of mobile phone theft.

  1. Do not leave your phone in an unattended state while travelling in train. Do not talk on mobile phone near door of compartment there is possibility of snatching.
  2. Generally, make it a habit to keep your phone with you at all times and never leave it unattended.
  3. Make a note of the 15-digit IMEI number, which is a unique identifier for the phone. You can get this by dialling *#06# (star hash 06 hash) from your mobile phone and it will display a 15-digit number. The IMEI number may also be found behind the battery on some phones. This number will help to track your mobile set on theft.
  4. Properly mark your phone and battery with your name and address using a permanent security marker pen for instant identification.
If your mobile phone is stolen, it is important to contact the police and your service provider as soon as possible. The service provider should be instructed to immediately block the SIM card. You can help the police by giving them these details: Phone (SIM card) number, IMEI number, and other details required.
